[ In 1956 top scholarship award amounts were increased by an increment of $1,000 and ten (10) National Styling scholarships of additional prizes were added for Excellence in Design worth $1,000 each. Only first state award winners were eligible for a Regional Award (all-expenses paid trip to the Guild Convention in Detroit valued at $750) which established the top models (20 Junior & 20 Senior). Regional award winners attended the 4-day Guild Convention in Detroit in late summer (usually August) as the Guests of the Guild. Contestant did not have to be a regional award winner to be eligible for a National Styling Scholarship winners. The contestant could be a third state award winner ($75 cash award) but due to “Excellence in Design,” originality of design, or high aesthetic appeal, etc. win a $1,000 college scholarship. Approximately 130 styling scholarships were awarded from 1956 to 1968.]
